Pittsburgh Playwrights will hold its annual season auditions seeking Equity and Non-Equity actors from all backgrounds, ethnicities, and levels of experience.


August Wilson’s Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom featuring Vanessa German
**Seeking Non- Equity actors only**

Pittsburgh Playwrights in conjunction with The August Wilson Center for African American Culture’s Highmark Blues and Heritage Festival will produce the classic Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. The play takes place during a single afternoon in the recording studio of a famous blues singer, Ma Rainey. It is the first of Wilson’s ten-play American Century Cycle which is now considered a staple of American theater.

Rehearsals begin Tuesday, August 14, 2018, with performances beginning Friday, September 14, 2018, through Sunday, September 30, 2018.

The Ray Werner Play Festival: From veteran Pittsburgh playwright Ray Werner, five plays will be presented in repertory with an ensemble of actors playing many roles. The festival will premiere a combination of Mr. Werner’s one-acts and full length plays.

Rehearsals begin in October 2018 with a run in November of 2018. (Specific dates to be announced shortly.)

Savior Samuel by Mark Clayton Southers: Savior Samuel is the first of Southers’ 19th Century series of plays exploring lives and themes of African-American life in the 19th century. In Savior Samuel, an African-American family is trying to survive in the Midwest when an unexplained event changes their lives as well as those who interact with them.

Rehearsals will begin in January of 2019 with a run in February 2019. (Specific dates will be announced shortly.)
